The range offered includes map materials, tracking functions with specific vehicle information, and the analysis of data rendered by the vehicle. In the future, a news service offered specifically by RIO will not only facilitate improved communications of drivers among themselves and with dispatchers, but will also improve the flexibility and efficiency of itinerary planning. Keeping track of vehicle performance data makes maintenance routines more predictable and serves to safeguard deployability, which results in better and especially faster management of single trucks and large fleets.
In previous months, RIO services were thoroughly tested by 100 customer vehicles in Germany, France, Denmark, Great Britain and Poland. “The test run with our customers was very successful,” reports Markus Lipinsky, CEO of RIO. “Our received feedback indicates that we listened properly and headed in the right direction while developing the RIO platform. From the start, MAN proved a strong partner by our side, and the digital services of other Volkswagen Truck & Bus brands, as well as other partners, stand ready to also invest in the RIO platform in the foreseeable future.”
Other than factors such as quality, functionality and user-friendliness, a high degree of compatibility is a decisive element, as RIO is a cloud-based platform with software utilizable irrespective of individual systems or manufacturers.
Every customer who chooses to install the RIO box in a truck can register on the platform and activate the vehicle – simply and without external assistance. Since the summer of 2017, the RIO box has already been integrated into all newly built MAN truck series (EURO 6C) produced in Europe.
As of 2018, it can be retrofitted in all truck types with an FMS interface, regardless of the manufacturer. All customers registered on the RIO platform can utilize the first service RIO Essentials for free, with additional RIO services, OEM-specific applications and partner solutions being available via the Marketplace.
